I've had some experience with MDK 9.1 but I did not like it because compiling stuff was difficult with dependencies. For example, WineX wouldn't work because I have a newer version of GLIBC. Now I would like to install Gentoo to take advantage of it's Ebuilds. I am going to have access to cable for a few days but not to the computer I would like to install it on, which has 56k. What would be the best thing to download to install Gentoo on my 56k (which uses a winmodem driver so I have to install Gentoo off of CDs).

Stage 3. Then you can use the output of "emerge -pf packagename" to write a list of URLs to download on the fast connection. Once they are in possession, put them in /usr/portage/distfiles, and emerge away.

Use the GRP (Gentoo Reference Platform = prebuilt packages) and Stage 3 for the quickest install with the least downloading.
