Hey..

I Installed (or tried at least) some new fonts yesterday, and everything seemed to work fine until I restarted X. Now, all my GTK apps won't start. Heres the error msg:

** (gaim:22135): WARNING ** : Cannot open font file for font Vedana 10

and same error for fallback font.

Tried starting gtk apps as root and that works fine. Have tried to delete the fonts.cache files in mye home dir but that didn't work, also tried to run fc-cache -fv but that didn't help either...

Would think it's only a file in my home dir that's misconfigured, but I have no clue what it could be. Looked through the gnome and gtk dirs, but didn't find anything useful...

Anyone have som hints for me here?

Cheers

Vegard

well what distro? what version of X? if 4.3 did you make sure you ran fc-cache and that there was a fonts.dir file in there? if not make sure you run those and that your XF86Config file isnt messed up somehow!

I run Slackware 8, but most of it is updated to the latest versions. Xfree ver 4.3.0

it's a fonts.dir file in my fonts folder and I've looked through XF86Config to check for error several times.

I use gtk2 for the apps that I regulary use but arent working (gaim and gkrellm)

could it be somekind of permissions setting issue? you can run the apps under root while it is denying u access under normal users. check that you have set your verdana font file permissions to be accessible for all.
i could be wrong as i m more of a newbie to linux right now...but being on windows for years make me think on these points. well u never know...
