Hi, I am doing some research on Linux and was wondering if anyone can tell me or give me a link to websites regarding:

who sponsors the Linux project, in what way they sponsor (equipment, funding, etc.)

how many different branch of Linux kernel are approximately available at the moment? are they manage by one person each of a few people?

Thank you.

these sites will help. You have a long way to go to learn about linux. Linus Torvalds is in charge, more or less, projects related to linux are run by formal and informal commitees, depending on the project. There are different branches, but a better word would be flavors. Pretty much all linux versions work together, so it lacks the incompatibilities of unix/MS win/dos. Each flavor is controlled by a select group of people, but that number varies from one to hundreds.
