hello folks :)

i just finished re-installing redhat 7.3 in one of my machines, and im wondering which updates do i really need for it.
I upgraded everything that was available from the redhat update agent in my previous installation, after which i found out that xine, and xmms couldn't open files that it previously could.
So im wondering if there are any other upgrades in there that are best left un-downloaded, or even ones that are not really necessary.
And can anybody please suggest things that i can do to make the system more secure. i know enough to comment out some stuff in /etc/services.

Thanks in advance :):):):)

Red Hat 7.3 is getting pretty old now - there are likely to be numerous security updates out there.

Make sure that you have the latest stable version of _every_ running service that you have, especially (but not exclusively) anything that connects to the net, or over a network.

Hi,

There is a known remote exploit for Apache + OpenSSL v0.9.6d and below.
You may want to comment out the LISTEN 443 line in your httpd.conf file unless your using ssl. You can read about it at packetstorm.org

Like mrBen said you might want to go right to rh9.0 instead.
