I`m trying to install RedHat 9 to my laptop(Acer Travelmate 634). After i boot up from the 1st CD, it always ask me to perform a media check, but the problem is I can`t use my keyboard at that time!!! Every key doesn`t work. I cound type before that. Anyone has any idea???
And does RH9 has a ACPI package preinstalled? If i want to compile acpi into kernel, do i have to download the new acpi patch??

Does this happen in both graphical and commandline installs?

Type "linux text" at the boot prompt. I've had numerous problems with RH's GUI installer, but the text one is simple and usually stable.
Go ahead and try with the console install as plattypus1 suggested.
As for the ACPI support, I think it comes with it.. IIRC.

RH 9 doesn't have acpi support... you'll have to patch your kernel (vanilla or red hat's) with the acpi patch andrecompile your kernel or you could download the alan cox 2.4.21ac kernel srcs and compile from those... I hear acpi support is superior in these kernels but not from experience.

Ummm... the media check comes before you select which type of install you want to preform, so text or GUI install shouldn't be the issue.
Can you type in Windows?

the keyboard is a good one, I can even type in the linux text after boot. But that still ask me to perform a media check, and just can`t use the keyboard.

Try typing 'linux nofirewire' to start the installation.

BTW, that came from this thread:

That guy seems to have had the same problem as you, and the nofirewire option fixed it.
