Who should read this very short quasi-HOWTO: Someone who uses Debian Sid (and maybe Sarge) who wants to change the default Main Menu icon in GNOME 2.2 from the foot to something else and does NOT want to use gconf.
Step 1: Back up the original icon.
From the terminal as root: cp /usr/share/pixmaps/gnome-logo-icon-transparent.png /usr/share/pixmaps/gnome-logo-icon-transparent.png.bak
Step 2: Copy the icon you want over the original (I'll use the Debian Swirl as an example)
From the terminal as root: cp /usr/share/pixmaps/other/Debian-Swirl.png /usr/share/pixmaps/gnome-logo-icon-transparent.png
Step 3: Restart GNOME
I've been told that it is possible to change the icon using gconf-edit but to me the gconf repository resembles the dreaded Windows Registry...and quite frankly that scares me!
