Okay, so a little over a year ago, I registered a domain with Godaddy.com, because they were cheap. As the year registration period of my domain was coming to an end, I starting thinking about moving to another Registrar. Okay, no biggie, I'll just wait until the grace period is over. My domain was supposed to expired on the 12th of May. It is now July 13th.

They are holding it HOSTAGE for $80! I don't know when they are even going to release it again. I can't do anything with the domain name right now.

So, I'm warning anybody. Never just let a domain expire from them. Either transfer it or stick with them.

-Jared, hoping his domain name will be released from this hostage cituation sometime soon.

Its not even just that one site that does that, Its a common practice that a large majority of the online marketers of domain names will do. Seeing how it expired you don't own it now, they do they are just in a way holding it ransom. You want it back you have to pay for it. Its kinda like when some credit card companies charge you a late fee when your late with a payment. With anything just try to keep up to date with bills and the like and it makes things easier and less expensive in the long run.

If the domain is now available (not owned by anyone), just re-apply for it at a new registrar. If it's not actually owned by anyone (and at this point it shouldn't be), you'll get it for whatever fees the new registrar charges.

No, it's under their name right now. I think I'll have it in about 10 days, as that would be 30 days after they changed it to their name (Apparently that is their policy. I e-mailed them)

I though Godaddy.com were a bunch of spammers???

I thought they hosted that emarketersamerica.com web site that is trying to sue Spamhaus and other anti spam organizations.
