I formatted the C: drive of 4GB, installed Windows 95, then changed the BIOS to boot from CDROM first. I downloaded these files and burned them into a CD using ISO option
shrike-i386-disc1.iso
shrike-i386-disc2.iso
shrike-i386-disc3.iso
I insert CD #1 and it is not recognized. Windows 95 keeps appearing instead.
Any hints?

Are you quite sure you burned the iso's as a image and not as a single file?
Can you see a filesystem (files & directories) on the installation cd?

I am not sure that I saved the 3 iso files correctly on the CDs. I selected a ISO option on the CD-Burner. I can see the files from Windows 95 and Windows NT. The first CD has the following name on it: "shrike~2.iso". All the documentation I found on the CD Burner Application was on the help of the application. There were only 2 references to ISO there. Bottom line.. I am not sure if the 3 images are saved correctly. Could you point me to more documentation on the topic? Or do you know what is wrong?
Now, I also suspect that the BIOS configuration may not be working. I put Windows 98 CD and re-boot and it ignore the CD, it went directly to Windows 95 and not the Red Had 9 Installation application. Do you know how to test the BIOS config?

no see you burned the iso to the cd, when burned properly you will see the uncompressed image, what burning program are you using?

boy i didnt explain that very well huh,
ok what you did, was to copy the image file to the disk, no the image itsself, if that makes sense
if your using easy cd creator, or most common burning programs, just use windows explorer to get to the file and double click on it, the default action should set up everything to burn, what probably happened was (not your fault you followed their insturctions) you started a data project and added the image, which just burns the shrike*.iso file to the disk, instead of copying the contents of the iso image

Depending which computer you are using, your BIOS boot process may be very quick in which the CD drive has not completed spinning up the CD and therefore BIOS can't find a boot sector so it goes to the hard drive. Press the pause key during the boot process to allow enough time for the CD to spin up. Also make sure the settings in the BIOS setup under the boot menu are setup correctly to boot from CD-ROM.
Anyway,
I hope this helps!

I have Easy CD Creator 4 by Adaptec. When I copied the files, I opened the application and selected the option to create a DATA CD, which is probably the problem. I'll try this again tomorrow.
If I am successful, what should I see?
a) A whole bunch of folders
b) A single ".iso" file
"...ok what you did, was to copy the image file to the disk, no the image itsself, if that makes sense " .... I didn't follow this, but probably with an answer to the question above this will be clear.

Okay... This can be a problem with old cd-rom drives. Sometimes, they can't read burned cds. Several at my house are like that. That could be another possibility. If that's the case, you might have to buy a distro, just to get a normally manufactured cd.
Or, try a different brand of cd-r's. Old drives can read some better than others. I've had good luck with Maxell.
By the way, if it gives you a chance to check your installation media, and your cds fail, don't give up. It might work, anyway. This happened to me with an installation last weekend, and it ended up working just fine.
Just another possibility...
<edit> Just saw the part at the end of your last post. Think of an iso as something that has to be duplicated. If you just put it on a disc as a file, the cd will be burned as a Windows-formatted cd, with the disc image as a file on it. The disc image contains its own formatting information, so burning it as an IMAGE preserves this.

yeah but if a cd-writer was used, it can read them
and yes when you burn it you should see a few folders, and files, not a single iso image file

I double-clicked the iso files and the CD Burner saved the image correctly. Now, I can see the installation screens correctly. Thanks!

What that means is that researchers work pretty hard to create new products or create new things. The rate at which they do this things is pretty fast. However, as they create these things, they also create a whole bunch of ignorants around the world. The rate at which ignorance is created is even faster, since billions of people trying to keep up with new inventions. Linux is a very good example of this situation.
... is like what I heard once, "the level of clue around the world is a constant." - I think this was said by a guy at MIT.
