I have loaded Linux so many times I can't count them. Every time I read something new--that Linux is greatly improved and all that, I load it again and get frustrated again when I can't make any sense of any of the menus.

I just loaded Linux Mandrake 9.1 and I can't find the DNS, IP and Subnet settings anywhere.

Some help, please.

They should be in the network scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts.

DNS are in /etc/resolv.conf and hosts in /etc/hosts.

Thanks for the interest.

I do have a problem with your instructions, though. There are between thirty and thirty-five items in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts menu item. Which one is supposed to have the network settings in it?

Also, there is no /etc/resolv.conf in my menus, nor is there a /etc/hosts.

What am I supposed to do to see these menu items you mentioned?

Bear in mind I am from a Windows environment and I have no idea what these things in these Linux menus are.

In Mandrake 9.1 the have what you call drakeconf thats Control Panel for windows users. Look under the system menu appet for "Mandrake Control Center" in there you will be able to set up your hardware,network,etc.... Mdwatts was refering to files located on your harddrive /etc/ is a dir sysconfig is a dir and network-scripts is a file. If you would like to edit those files look for System Menu Appet, File Manager - Super User Mode. Also when I was new to Linux I used Desktop/LX it's alot easy for windows users. www.lycoris.com - www.lycoris.org . You might check it out.
