If you play games in Linux, chances are you play them in fullscreen, if possible. Unfortunately, recent Nvidia drivers have inherited the famous Windows "feature" of knocking the refresh rate to 60Hz when in fullscreen mode. What is happening is that the Nvidia driver is using the lowest possible refresh rate for the given fullscreen resolution.

Thankfully, this is easy to fix. Open up your XF86Config file (it might be called XF86Config-4 in some distros) and find the line with VertRefresh. You will see a range of numbers. Mine is 50-150. Change the lower number to the lowest refresh rate you plan to use (eg 75).

Enjoy :)
