I'm trying to downgrade my Cisco Aironet 350 firmware. There's no .tar.gz file available for the version that I need so I downloaded an .exe file. On www.goonda.org it says that the .exe is somehow uncompressed into an .img file which the aironet client utility can use to load the firmware. Problem is, I don't know how to achieve this decompression and all G4L (which seems to be really lagging right now) and alltheweb searches haven't yielded anything helpful. Thanks for your help.

You don't have a Windows/Dos pc you could use?
I've done similar with a exe and found that just executing it at the commandline worked. Either Wine or dosemu took care of it.
Give it a try and see if it works.

Since I am not an expert on the programs listed, let me just mention the obvious. .exe files are Dos/windows executable files. By definition, they cannot be run in linux except perhaps via dosemu or wine. They are not intended to be used in linux except as suggested. If you do find a way, a lot of us would be delighted to know how.

No, I didn't have a Windows PC to use. But, after looking at some things for a while I came across an interesting situation: Permissions were set to 755, but from the command line it wouldn't execute. After setting the permissions to 000 and then back to 755, everything worked just fine. That was by far the weirdest thing I've ever come across. Anyways, extracted the .IMG file and the firmware downgrade went as planned. Thanks all for your help.

Wow mdwatts, you really lost me there. It makes sense that wine would have made it easier to figure all of this out but I detest wine so I refuse to run it. The only thing that I can't do on my Linux boxes is play games; graphics cards simply won't handle most of them. That's why XP on my dual boot box is solely used for gaming.
