I use RedHat's up2date feature to update a great deal of the programs I have on my box including the kernel. When there is a kernel update, is there anyway to install it without having to reboot?

you have to reboot to be able to get into the new kernel because after updates you would still be booted up into whatever you old kernel is.

Yes, I know that, the question was: Is there anyway to load the new Kernel without rebooting? I know several OS's can do this.

AFAIK you have to reboot in order to remove the old kernel from memory etc. and load in the new. Also to load the new kernels modules.

i think i read somewhere that 2.6 kernels will have this ability.

at the moment, you have to reboot to load a new kernel.

the problem is i read a lot of things in magazines as i read between 4-6 Linux Magazines a month... so.... for me to have to go back and search through at least 4 magazines for an article that may go back 6 months = not likely :)

No need. Just download the latest development kernel. It's in there ;)

I've heard five years ago that AIX had that capability.
