Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Samba can't see Windows XP
Yo yo yo,
Running a RH8.0 computer I needed to get access to some of my networked windows computers. Using LinNeighborhood, because it seems simpler to me, I was able to mount 2 windows 98 fat filesystems. But when it came time to mount the ntfs filesystems on a windows XP computer, LinNeighborhood saw the computer but not the filesystems.
How can I go about mounting these windows XP filesystems

You need ntfs compiled into your kernel look at mdwatts sig (he has a link for precompuled ntfs modules)

For ease of reference, said link is to http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/info/redhat.html.
I've installed the ntfs module a long time ago, longer then I've tried to mount this nfs, so I'm thinking that it will make no differance wheather its installed or not.

umm you don't need NTFS support to mount a shared NTFS drive over the network. i have no idea why people were trying to tell you that. network Windows mounts are SMB mounts. NTFS mounts are for local file systems only.
regarding you Network Neighborhood problem with the XP box: it's probably permissions.
there is a setting in Lin Neighborhood where you can enter a username and a password to use to browse a computer.
you will also want to set it to browse in user mode.

Scaning as a user worked, thanks
