At standard install of mdk 9.1.. i have 3 icons to show that the floppy, and the 2 cdrom are mounted, Can i just remove safely those icons without changing anything to the automount setting, since they just take space on the desktop and dont seem of any use...

Yup, you can remove the icons - they're just links to the mount directories.

I forget exactly where the option is...somewhere in the kde control center there is a section for hardware icons to show on the desktop (such as hard drive partitions, mounted CDs, etc) and you should be able to just uncheck the box for whatever you don't want on your desktop.

Or just try deleting them with rm through a terminal.
