does anybody in here know if there are any compatability issues with Linux and centrino?

I really want to buy a laptop with a centrino processor but am worried that problems will arrize. I'm going to college and don't have time to play around with things.

well, since Centrino technology consists of a Mobile processor and a builtin wireless network card (802.11b) I don't think there are any forseeable problems with it.

There is a bit more to Centrino than that. It is a mobile processor and wireless LAN as you said but it also includes a different chipset structure around the processor.

I don't know if Linux would have trouble with that or not.

My laptop has this, and works fine. The main issue is that the wireless card is a Broadcom, and these are well known not to work with Linux.

I've found a few sites that help on the other features of the chipset (like SpeedStep) and they provide kernel patches. Check http://linux-on-laptops.com/ for what you are look at getting and see what people needed to do to get things working

My friend has one but the internet works sometimes and others it doesn't.... thats only in red hat

Slackware, Gentoo, Debain, & Mandrake all work 'perfectly' fine... and he uses his laptop all of the time.
