CD Drive Cant Read Music CDs

for some odd reason when i pop a music cd of mine into my cd drive, it cant read it. ideas?

What do you mean by "read"?

Audio CDs do not contain a filesystem so they can not be mounted, you need something like cdplayer app that can play them (and have the audio cable hooked up between the drive and sound card)

Of course ensure you have the audio cable as mahdi posted.

arg, im sorry for not searching first. i plugged the cable in a while ago, i didnt know that with audio cds and mounting. it doesnt work when i use an app that plays cds :'(

n/m i got it to work! yay! now the problem is for Linux not to change it to mute everything

Are you running Mandrake 9.1? It's originally set up to have the volume on mute. Type:

aumix&

at the console.

Sorry about that. After 12 hours of JL, I felt that was enough and logged out for the night.
