I just tried to install SuSE 8.2 Pro on my new PC and ended up with a blank screen (monitor in sleep mode) just after the kernel was loaded.

My PC config is as follows:
MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R motherboard, 1GB Dual Channel DDR 400 memory, hyperthreading enabled and an MSI FX5200 128MB DDR video card (nVIDIA GeFORCE FX5200 chipset).

I'm guessing SuSE doesn't know the card hence the display issues. Does anyone know of a workaround to allow me to install SuSE ?

Thanks

I noticed that with Red Hat when I added a FX5200...it didn't know what to think of it!

But it works just fine using the GeForce 3 generic driver "nv"
Install the nVidia Linux driver and change the driver in /etc/X11/XF86Config to "nvidia"

If none of this works, look through the /var/log/XFree86.0.log for any lines starting with (WW) or (EE) for hints of why it doesn't work

my problem is I haven't got any flavour of Linux installed so I'm crashing at the install stage...is there anything I can do at this point other than pop in an old ATI mach 64 card, install, edit config files, shut down, change cards and then fire up again?

Thanks

Have you tried the text based install?

will try that now.
