Ohh dear,

OK. Mandrake 9.1 newly re-installed with and a ASUS MoBo A7N8X (Nvidia drivers installed and detected, even the USB2).

My problem (and I have no idea why) is that the USB ports seem only to detect my USB mouse?!!? I install a USBkey try to mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/whatevermount and I keep on getting this error mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device
. Tried installing my Epson USB scanner (which was working before) and it can't find it. I do a /sbin/modprobe usb-storage
and nothing seems to happen. I do dmesg and it says Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
usb.c: registered new driver usb-storage
USB Mass Storage support registered.
Yet it still won't find /dev/sda. Anyone know what's going on? Heres the dump from lsmod hope it helps:

On your scanner problem, it looks like you don't have the scanner module loaded. Use sane-find-scanner to get the vendor ID and product ID. Then when you instert the scanner module, use vendor=XXXXX product=XXXXX where XXXXX is the output from sane-find-scanner and your scanner should start to function. Since I am not a Mandrake user, I don't know if there is an easier way to get your scanner working, or how to have your scanner module loaded automatically on system initialization. If you need more help, you could always click on the search button at the top of the JL page and search for Epson Scanner. You will get a lot of hits for that. Hope this helps.

Thanks for answering Supernu,

I suppose my real question is what on earth happened su hot plug? I mean it installed no problems before (previous installation of MDK 9.1) all on its own and mounted the scanner when I pluged it in. I actually have tried adding it manually in the MDK control center but when I fire up sane it saiz comunication error. =( I think I'm gonna have 2 apply the old windowz remedy when things refuse 2 work-reinstall (no damn it!! It can't be that hard... out you demons of stupidity!!!!)
