I know this has been done millions of times before and I've heard arguments on both sides, but I need to know what's true.
I've heard that AMD is cheaper, but has a tendancy to fry more often, is this true?
I've heard that Intel is more expensive, but that it's just a better preformance, is this true?

One place to get the nitty and gritty on AMD or Intel is www.overclockers.com
It's becoming more like comparing apples and oranges than apples and apples. Depends on what you want to do, and what price your willing to pay.
As to frying, well if you don't push the settings there will be no problem.
The above mentioned site is not exactly what you may think. It has very many well written articles on the pros and cons of both chips, overclocked or not.

As a person who runs both (I have one machine with a P4 and another with a Athlon) I feel my Athlon is a bit more responsive. I haven't OCd it or anything. Just stock. But I do expect my Intel to last longer and yes, AMD chips do run a little hotter (at least thats my opinion). Both are great. You can't go wrong.

I buy mostly AMD's at this point. In the past they have almost always benched marked faster then intels. There are some apps out there use some of the advance features of intel but they are rare. I have a computer with a amd cpu which has been running almost non stop for about 4 years and I have not had any problems with it. At work most of the time they say you can spend $X on the server. So I buy amd's so I can get the most out of my budget. I don't want to waist money on a intel which realy comes down to paying more for a brand name.
