Hi all,
Finals begin tomorrow. I'm mostly worried about Physics and Strength of Materials, but this Programming and Numerical Methods class has me buggin a bit.

I need a 6-7 line essay-type definition for Computer Information Systems. It's open book and open notes so I've been trying to come up with one today. Intuitively the answer is pretty easy, but forming a concise definition is a little tougher. I just spent about 35 mins looking up "CIS," "Computer Information Systems" and various other permutations on Google, dictionary sites, and computer/web dictionary sites. Nada. I mostly find links to course outlines for colleges and way too many references to CompuServe Information Systems. Actually the ONLY definition I found was that CIS is a department in most companies....blah.

If any wordsmiths can fanagle up some juicy snippets I'd really appreciate it.

Side note: This is a really random question for this final. The class is basically math. Every other question on the final is math..from Eigenvector matrices to the fundamental frequencies of spring-mass systems, to finding roots of 3rd order polynomials via the Newton-Rhapson method to Linear and Non-Linear Approximation..all by hand.

sheesh..thanks a bundle

Adapted from http://www.emporia.edu/business/cis/club:

---
CIS is a broad umbrella term which encompasses how people, data, computer hardware, software, and other technology work together to satisfy the information needs of professionals who are involved in making business decisions. To work in CIS requires a thorough understanding of the business issues that form the environment in which these decisions are made. Modern, competitive corporations require that information systems professionals fully understand the impact of new applications of technology on the company, and are capable of communicating that knowledge.

That would seem to cover what CIS is, what it encompasses, what drives it and what mindset is required in order to be a part of it. Well, kind of, anyway. :) Hope this helps.
