libpng with mplayer

i've been having problems running ./configure --enable-gui while trying to install MPlayer. it says "Error: PNG support required for GUI compilation, please install libpng and libpng-dev packages." in responce to this i installed a version of libpng from source but it still gives me the lame error.

is there anybody out there that can help me. i am decprate.:confused:

did you do an ldconfig after you installed libpng? if not, open a shell and run ldconfig as root, then try to install mplayer.

I did the ldconfig but it still gives me the same error

i just installed the libpng-1.0.2-1 after that everything was fine
