I was told that unix systems dont use the BIOS of the computer, instead they just detect and configures all the hardware when the operating system boots ?

How would this effect overclocking my processor or memory via the BIOS , would i have to edit config files in Linux or can i still use the BIOS ?

What application should i use to benchamark my system in linux.

Thanks in advance.

I dont think so. I think the BIOS works juuuuust fine. BIOS overclocking works ok- mine is. When you overclock in the bios, on startup, it should tell you the current clock speed.

Linux does use BIOS to detect your settings at boot (go read the kernel source). It however *does* not use the BIOS once loaded unlike windows. The BIOS has a small amount of functionality that is better off (in a cross platform program) being in the OS any way.
