ok, here it is. i have a desktop that dual boots, mdk 9 and xp, a laptop that is mdk 9, and an unused 486. what i would like to be able to do is use the 486 for a print/dial-out server, without tying down my laptop (moving about guite a bit) or my desktop (rebooting often, not always on) as the default gateway. i do dialup, but i would like to be able to share the connection for msn/aol im services. now, the real problem being what to do with the 486. it has no cd drive, and i just spent 100$ on the network kit, and i am now flat broke again. the only distros i have access to are mdk 9 and 8.1. what do i put on it, and how do i configure the client machines. i just wasted an afternoon on it, and the only thing i came out with are two very confused linux boxes (with non-functioning internet connnections). thanks!

A floppy linux router like freesco sounds like the perfect fit for your setup.. http://www.freesco.org
