Hey all,

I don't know how many of you actually look at who is putting advertisements on this site, but I have noticed a few Mircosoft ads. One for tablet PC and one for PocketPC. Just an observations.

Nathan.

I HATE WHEN PEOPLE CLUTTER THE DATABASE WITH STUPID POSTS LIKE THIS ONE. YOU NEED TO SEARCH THE FORUM BEFORE POSTING SUCH AN OBVIOUS OBSERVATION THAT EVERYONE HAS NOTICED!!!!!!!!! YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Lord, Alex, calm down! Jeez! Deep breaths... ;)

And yes, as a matter of fact, it has been observed. Earlier today, even. :D :

And I do like El_Cu_Guy's idea in there for an autodelete for these threads... I wonder if it'd be possible, given the nature of the forum software...

It really is funny how many people point that out every week.

This has to be the 15th time at least that I have seen this same topic, lol, I think they just need to put a disclaimer under that banner up there, like, "yes we know"

please SEARCH BEFORE POSTING. Especially stupid pointless things like this. Does it really matter where JL gets it's money from? Would you rather have JL shut down than to look at an MS ad?

Actually, it is really difficult to find posts on this topic using the search. Dispite the fact that there have probably been hundreds of these threads, I could only find eight. That was with some knowledge of the titles of such threads and with immediate knowledge of some of the text in the responses to those threads. I could only find three by typing Microsoft and two by typing ads and you had to sort through several other non-related postings.

Very true. In one of the last threads I was joking I could prove that the return of this topic obeys to a sine curve, and I indeed started to work on it. However, I wasn't able to get enough data points to run a statistically significant analysis. :D

I counted 11 exact threads... then I lost count.

is it possible to know how many people actually clicked on the M$ banner on this site?

Microsoft banners are on http://www.linuxgames.com too. I think they are intentionally targetting Linux sites.

have you noticed that they (M$) make their employees post threads (here) about how Linux isn't ready for prime time. While on their breaks!

Hey, those pro-M$ ads are on Slashdot too!

It's a conspiracy!

Hide! Lock your internal organs away! Wear your tinfoil hat!

On a different note... The obligatory Penny-Arcade comic:

I am willing to bet...and this has probably been said before in one of many other versions of this post that JL probably gets their banners from a source that rotates the banners, its probably not MS asking JL to host their banner, but I could be wrong. JL is hosted by internet.com and probably uses the same banner stuff for that.....Just a thought...but hell, if I want a microsoft ad all I have to do is look a my mouse, who cares if MS is advertising on JL anyway :D

They get their banner rotation from Jupiter Media (used to be called internet.com, but they changed their name at some point (the .com bust perhaps?) for some reason), just like all the other Jupiter Media sites (LinuxToday, etc.).

Does it really matter who pays the bills for this site?

Actually, I clicked on one. I forget which one it is, but you can sign up to get this "Executive Productivity Kit" some of the contents included:

Mini Optical Mouse
A decent looking pen
a 16MB thumb drive, I think
some other stuff I forgot

It'll be 6-8 weeks before I get it.... I wonder if Any of the free stuff will be any count?

I was always meaning to get a USB thumbdrive...

I don't know why MS ads would be on the linuxgames site, but they are on this site due to it's owners being internet.com. They have the same ads running on all of theirs sites.

If the post isn't original, why not just let it die instead of *****ing and whining for two pages? Well, WHATever!

Just lately, it seems like the MS advertising has been relentless. I don't get it...

I used to think it was pretty funny, but now I find it depresssing. I suppose this isn't an original observation, either-- but Microsoft really sucks.:(

I wouldn't put it past the bastards, but is there any real evidence of this? I'd love to hear about it.:)

It Microsoft sucks that much, and you don't want them to pay, so that you can benefit from this forum, where don't you put your money where your mouth is and pay Internet.com for the banner space?

Generally you sign up with a company in which you agree to put their banner code on your site, and you're paid for each visit to the ads. The company chooses which ads are to be placed in the rotation.

If this is what JL uses I don't know.. but I do know this is usually how it works.

So if we all started clicking on the Microsoft ads (middle click, then close the new tab), they would have to pay more to JustLinux for the ad clicks. Microsoft would be funding linux (partly).

I'm not a big fan of microsoft (duh) and I don't think that they care to pay a linux help forum, but just maybe their are some decent ppl at msft that are not dumb enough to actually run windows on their home system.

enough of that.

I think the next market msft will try to own will be biotechnologies. Nano-bots are finally coming in and that would be a big area for them, not to mention mechanical organs running on msft.
But I wouldn't trust it. Imagine having a heart with msft software. Boom.

hrm... looks like this thread rose from the dead...

I'll just put it back where it was...

On a funny note, though, I never got the productivity kit Microsoft was supposed to send me. Apparently, a TON of people wanted one, too, and there weren't any kits left by the time I signed up. :(
