First I installed Mandrake 9.1 as a dual boot on my laptop.
Then once I got Mandrake fully configured and working the way I wanted I took my thumbnail and slid it underneath the "Made for Windows XP" sticker on my laptop.
I then lifted up my thumbnail removing the sticker.
It's that easy!

My goodness, I did not even realize that sticker is on my box. It will be removed immediately. Sometimes things just go unnoticed. I will apply the Powered by Red Hat decal that comes with the boxed set.

heh, i did that recently too, removed the windows 2000 serial number sticker from the side of my dell and placed a "Linux Inside" badge from thinkgeek.com on the side :) it's a good feeling to be rid of windows completely

it would probably feel better knowing that you didn't pay the licensing fee when you bought the computer with MS-windows pre-installed, but that is hard to do, unless you build your own computer.

Yep, I built a system last summer, so I bought the case in a "clean" state. In the little indentation where the Windows sticker is supposed to go, I got a case badge from www.linuxjewellery.com and put it there instead. :D

you can get all sorts of "case badges" if you look around on the web. I personally dont have any on my machine, as I am in to casemodding and it wouldnt work out well with my theme. But the come in penguins and little intel inside ripoffs saying linux inside or tux inside etc etc.
P.S. you want to really spiff up that box, check out www.gideontech.com

I am just surprised all the microsoft stickers don't read "DO NOT REMOVE UNDER PENALTY OF LAW". Or "Removal of this sticker will force us to make your computer even slower than it is now."

I took the 'Made for Windows 98' sticker off my old laptop, replaced it with a Debian sticker, and then stuck the Windows sticker on the side of my waste paper bin, which is where all future copies of Windows will go ;)
I have a Debian sticker on my desktop, and a Tux sticker on another box. All from http://www.linuxemporium.co.uk

I got the Mandrake 9.0 PowerPack, and I got nothing of the sort. I looked through the available boxes on mandrake's website (http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/) and saw no mention of it there, either. Perhaps you can get one custom done? (http://www.linuxjewellery.com/casebadges/)

There are a ton of these little badges on ebay. Just click throught to pc software and search for "linux decal" and you'll find plenty of them pretty cheap. Hope that helps. :)

If you are in the UK and are struggling to find somewhere to buy a case badge from the check out:
OC store (http://www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk/browseproducts.php?categoryid=14&basket_session=1dd6f6269d24cf510961cca0035c2c0f).
I have the 'blue background with a pengiun' badge :)
Some of those badges weren't there when I bought my Linux case badge about half a year ago. I quite like the biohazard one :D

I had an HP pavilion zt1151 laptop which I used constantly for 15months,
It had so much use that it blew up last week and the made for xp logo was a shiny rectangle.
I hadnt removed it cos the rest of the palmrest had worn smooth around it.
My nice new HP pavilion ze5354 had the xp logo removed yesterday along with its first Linux install.

Yeah, except what really has to p--- you off is that if you build your own computer, you will spend more money than if you bought one with the M$ license and then deleted the WO/S.
Back in the DOS days, I used to buy Dell computers with NOS -- about a $100 deduct. I installed DR-DOS (later Novell DOS) and Novell client to connect to NetWare server. There was a certain satisfaction that came from a) not having to pay a royalty to the Wa$hingtonian$, and b) using an O/S that was superior to M$-DO$.
But, Windoze prevailed and Novell folded DOS and I must now use NetWare clients designed for WinXP to run my Clipper (DOS) application on my Novell NetWare system and connect to the Internet via my SuSE Linux router.

I was inspired too. I peeled off the "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP" sticker, and put it on a rescue-floppy I'm using to hack (pending my teach's permission) the school network security software.

I don't really care much about the sticker - it just sit there uselessly, I installed w/ Debian the very first hour afer it was arrived. Poor Windows was wiped off immediately, I didn't even bother booting up to Windows.
But since we are on this subject, I looked around online and yet to find a Linux sticker for laptop. Anyone can recommend some good linux sticker for laptop ? Prefer Debian because that's what I run .

FYI, you may be able to get your money back for Windows. The license agreement used to say "if you do not accept the terms of this agreement, do not install the software," but talk to your reseller for a refund instead, basically. If that's still in the license, then start nagging whoever you got this laptop from for your $100 back for the copy of Windows that you never installed. :p
I know a couple of people have been successful doing this. I don't know how many have tried, though...

At work, the computer vendor badges were replaced with the penquin badges on my linux servers. I have a little red hat (RedHat) on my monitor that everyone can't go by without a pickup and squeeze.
Those poor Microsoft maintainers do the most tension relief sqeezing while I log into my servers once in a while just to make sure they're still there.

I've so far left the
Designed for
Microsoft®
Windows® XP
Windows® 2000
sticker on my laptop, so I can show people that my laptop was designed for Windows, but I run Gentoo despite what they want me to do. Not to mention that I get the sound card to work correctly and my integrated wifi will probably never work. I'd still rather run Linux than use Windows and that hardware.
By the way, I didn't pay for Winblows on this laptop, and I have a fatty Tux case badge that I got from ThinkGeek (http://www.ThinkGeek.com). That's right, this one sticks up about half a centimeter, it's made for full cases.

The first thing I did after I got my monitor was taking off the "Designed for Window$ 95" sticker. After that I've stated putting "Copy Controlled" stickers from cds I've ripped as a trophy in it's place:D
I hope I'm not paying too much for those copy control systems beeing developed, since not even one of them has ever slowed me down.
