Ok, last night I successfully installed Evil Enitiety (or whatever) also known as Undead Linux v0.25. I could use some help using the Enlightenment desktop. Here are a couple of things I hope you can help me with:
How can I logout (w/o ctrl+alt+backspace and logout) ?
How can I do shutdown (w/o logging out as shown above and logging in as root and halting the system)?
My desktop is so wide that it doesn't fit on my screen and I have to scroll around to find my apps all the time. How can I "zoom out" so I can see more?
TIA, Janne

Been there, done that, didn't help. Those are programming guides. I have no use for them I think.
click the middle mouse button on the desktop. it brings up the enlightenment help system.

I have used EvilE as well and had the same question. Here is what I did without any problems.
1)
CTRL-ALT-Del to logout to the shell
2)
type:
telinit 2
(to switch to single user)
3)
type:
shutdown now -h
That is how I shutdown most of the time. It didnt seem to cause any problems. I still run the box with EvilE, though at the moment I dont have a monitor for the machine. I am sure there is an easier way but I didn't find one (though I admit I didnt look very hard)
Note that this may cause problems I am not aware of. I am a bit of a noob myself.
Take care,

I am a little rusty with Enlgihtenment as i normally use KDE but i do enjoy a dabble with En as it is really very differet.
I seem to recall logging off by clicking the middle mouse button ( on a three button mouse!) or both buttons together (on a two button with emulate 3 buttons on).
It then brings up a menu with logout on the bottom, i can't remember wether shutdown was an option. However, if you can logout to the runlevel 4/5 (X11) Login screen, you can shutdown from there. All the stuff in Enlighenment is in the mouse menus, either left click for personal menu which can be tailored, right click for the Settings it think and middle/both click for the programs/logout.
As far as the desktop not fitting onto the screen. that is more likely a fault with X and not Enlightenment. Try pressing CTRL+ALT++/-(num pad) as this cycles through the available screen resolutions.
Hope this helps

A third menu, that seems to solve the problem. I'll give it a spin tomorrow and let you know how it went.
If anyone has any idea how to get my via chipset ac97 sound system to work in my evilbox please let me know. I tried the "/sbin/modprobe ac97" in some config file as instucted by www.undeadlinux.com but it didn't work out.
Thanks for all the help so far.

Here again. Now I found the third missing menu with help and logout, but I had to install the whole thing again to get things right. I also got the desktop size to fit my preferences. Two more problems to go:
1. Video playback is slow. I have RH9 installed in same box and it's way faster than evilbox even tho RH is supposed to be bloat, right? When starting X it shows me the nVidia logo screen so I take it's using some nVidia driver, but where can I check it? xf86config makes no sense. It's about ten pages long and full of ascii crap plus I can't find "nv" or "nvidia" anywhere.
2. My sound circuit. I have a MSI 6340 (I think) mother board with something like "via ac97 chipset" sound "card". How can I get it running? I went through all the docs supplied with the distro but it's all greek to me.
Please help me. It's a really cool looking distro and I would like to use it instead of RH9 :)

Something i try when i have vid poblems is taking the XF86Config file from the distro that works well, overwriting the one on the distro that doesn't and hope for the best. If they are using the same version of XFree this should work.
It would be worth posting the contents of /var/log/XFree86.0.log
here so we can look at them.
Sound i am not so hot about. You will need to make sure the sound.o and soundcore.o modules are loaded (doing lsmod at the command line should list what modules are running - if they are not, then insmod sound and insmod soundcore should load them) If you distro picksup the sound card ok then it might work.
You can also do lspci to show what pci devices are currently in your machine and recognized.
If you have the space, try load Mandrake, 8 upwards and if it detects your soundcard and it works, paste the modules.conf into your current setup.
This is the best advice i can give. I could not get my sound going without another distro picking it up, then i could see what needed to be done.
Hope this helps

I have been using EvilE for about 6 months. I discovered on my second install EvilE will compile the Nvidia drivers and set your XF86Config to use the Nvida drivers on install. Since you have an NVidia card you should be good. Not at my Linux box at the moment and can't remember the exact section of the file where the nvidia is at, but you should be good to go on video.
Personally I just ctrl+alt+F1 back to shell and logout. My MS friends see all that text on the screen before I log in and freak out.
I've never had a problem with video playback on EvilE, so I won't be much help.
www.undeadlinx.net explains how to get sound working. I have ac97 audio on my mobo also and found that using the ac97 codec didn't work. I finially got it working with the I810 codec. Follow the instructions on the web site and you should have sound.
If you need more help pm me or look for me on MSN same handle as here. Also IRC freenode has a EvilE channel. Some of the devs hang out there, but it's hit or miss.
