Hello,

If I just install X Windows (no KDE, no Gnome,no desktop thingy)

Will I be able to run applications like Mozilla? and internet
connection applications etc.

Will the RPM application work for installs?

I guess I'm asking how dependent are these GUI apps on the
desktop environments?

I just want to see a terminal and start the apps from scripts.

In RH can I install just X Windows and get a terminal?.

I'm kind of plowing into this linux thing and I think if I start with
the simplest configuration and then add to it as I want certain
applications that this would be easier than taking apart the
scripting that produced say the big bulk "Server" option on the
installation.

Thanks,

Georgie.

RedHat is going to discover all the dependencies when you want to install mozilla. It'll load GTK and whatever else. It's hard to get a barebones RedHat install. Maybe try the "minimal" install (if they still have it in 9) and add X from there. When you go to install Mozilla, though, it will have a lot of dependencies. Just about anything'll work in X, everything I've tried anyway.
