I'm installing slackware 9.0 on my old PII Comapq Presario with a 3GB HDD which I just realized was actually partioned into a 2GB main C: drive and a 1GB back-up D: partition. So I'm saying bye bye to the back up and for now am aiming to dual-boot 98 and slackware. I have no way of reinstalling 98 if I wipe it, though if I get slackware going well enough to enable a webserver I probably will just say good-bye.

What I'm trying to decide however is what packages to install as they won't all fit on 1GB, plus I'd like a little extra room for a small database. I've been trying to find the actual install sizes but have been unable to find that on slackware's site. I'd also appreciate input on which ones would be necessary/useful. Obviously I'm gonna nix KDE, gnome and games...

Nix every programming language except for gcc, g++ and maybe perl, depending on what runs on your server.

Also, word processing might be unnecssary. Abiword at the minimal should suffice.

I don't know if vectorlinux includes servers, but the entire install takes 500mb disk space.
