I just install RH 9
When I first started GNOME I got this message:
Could not look up internet address for x1-6-00-e0-18-73-13-0d.
This will prevent GNOME from operating correctly.
It may be possible to correct the problem by adding
x1-6-00-e0-18-73-13-0d to the file /etc/hosts.

and my console looks like:
silvater@x1-6-00-e0-18-73-13-0d

how do I change that crud and how do I add it to the /etc/hosts.

thanks

Well this is how my /etc/hosts file looks:

127.0.0.1 localhost apu.domain.net
192.168.0.253 apu.domain.net apu
192.168.0.1 domain.net domain
192.168.0.2 homer.domain.net homer
192.168.0.252 bart.domain.net bart

Actual domain name was change to protect the innocent

Hope that gets you started
