hi
a month ago or so i was trying to install freeBSD on my box.
i didnt get it running, because it says that there is not enough space on the device.

i noticed that BSDs are a little bit different when allocating disk space, whats that all about with the slices? (are they called slices?)
how many slices do i have to create?
and how does that with the slices work?

last time i installed, i made one slice of all the available space and two partitions. when i was trying to install he said with every file, that there isnt enough space to copy it.

thanks alot!

You'll want a couple of gigs free for freebsd with all the software installed (and some space to work with). If you have that much free, then for your first install, just use one slice. If you decide to change it in the future, fine. Whether it's linux or freebsd, it's hard to decide how to configure your partitions/slices, without knowing how you're going to use it. To play around with at first, I'd just go with the defaults.
