Check in the Gnome menu if you don't see a Change Desktop option..I think that there's one, at least in KDE, I think.

You want to change your default desktop enviorment from gnome to kde?

f I remeember correctly you can do this from your login screen ie before you login switch your de from gnome to kde.

if that does not work try this

open up a terminial window/ then do a switch user i'e at the prompt type su
press enter then enter your root password.

Then at the root prompt type # echo "exec startkde" > $HOME/.Xclients and then chmod 755 $HOME/.Xclients

both of these options should change your desktop enviorment. I would recomended using the first option.
