I am trying to find how to change what options are presented when I chose to "log out" of KDE in Mandrake 9.1.
Currently, if I click "log out" it simply prompts me as to whether or not I want to end the session.
What I would like to have happen, and actually this has happened on occassion, is to be able to chose from logging out, restarting, or halting as three initial options after clicking "log out"
I want to save time from having to click "log out", chose yes to end session, then chose restart or halt, and then have to confirm a choice from there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In order to get those options on clicking log out in KDE you need to use the Mandrake default Display manager or KDM when you login. XDM, GDM and CLI don't work for this in KDE.
Disclaimer! There may be a work around, I'm quite happy with and prefer KDM as my DM anyway so I never tried to find a way around it.

Now I am starting to feel even dumber than before. Now if I choose "log out" it will actually log me back in. Then if I chose "log out" it will bring up the menu (with a dragon on the left with the three options of logging out, restarting, or halting.

I think I have finally got it. Thanks again for the help. I like Linux better than Windows but I still have trouble tweaking some things (actaully many things) in Linux.

I can't say how I did to work. But I did change the options to where it does not automatically log me in and then from there under the session manager and login options I changed them to default but I still log into KDE when I log in. What actaully worked is a msytery to me but so far i keep getting the dragon menu.

same problem!!
some times the dragon, some times the logout. But it seems mostly the logout nowadays.
And once i've logged out and chose reboot, i SOMETIMES get the list of other OS's i get boot into..sometimes i can none at all. Making my only option is to reboot from another terminal. Help would be great here!

i've never had a problem with the reboot to other oses...
mandrake is slicker than redhat but also seems only half-baked

I've personally never had a problem with that at all. The way it's always worked for me is thus: If I log into a standard (non-graphical) terminal and then run startx, when I logout of KDE I'm presented with the logout window. If I log into my computer by using the (graphical) KDM instead of the terminal, then whenever I logout of KDE I'm presented with "Login as different user", "Turn off computer", and "Restart computer", in that order, with the dragon on the left side.
