I'm currently running win XP on a two drives in raid 0. I installed an additional hard drive on the primary IDE outside of the array and installed RH9 on that drive. Grub will not recognize the raid array and I cannot boot to windows. When the drive is dissconnected windows boots right away. Once red hat loads the hardware browser recognizes the presence of the other two drives, however I can't get the boot loader to identify the array. Any help would be much appreciated.

Ok slight addition.
I think I know the way to access the other hds but I'm not sure how to edit grub.conf correctly.
My xp partitions are on hde and hdg. What do I need to add?

Sounds like you might need to use a driver disk during install to load the module for your RAID controller.

Create driver disk from the drvblock.img file located in the /images directory on Installation CD 1.

At the installation boot prompt, type:

dd

This should make the installer prompt you for the driver disk during installation.

Hello, RAGEAngel9.

I just wanted to mention that the support database of my distribution (SuSE) states that you should use LILO and not GRUB if you have a RAID array.

I have a Type 0 RAID array. (I just have the driver installed so I can put a hard drive on IDE 3.)

I am using GRUB, which is SuSE's default bootloader now, but I have seen no evidence of problems.

You might want to check if there are any warnings for Red Hat about using GRUB with an array setup.

Things should be okay, however.

Cordially,

David

P.S. -- I would be curious to learn if anyone else is using GRUB with a RAID setup. Thanks! :)
