I recently installed Quake 3 on my Gentoo install, and I felt like benchmarking it.

The results pleased me.

Linux, timedemo demo4: 122 FPS

Windows, timedemo demo4: 102 FPS

Heh, I get better scores in Linux than I do in Windows. Cool. And I was in KDE as well.

For those of you who play Quake 3 on both Linux and Windows, and if you care to take part in this little survey, please compare the timedemos between the 2, and post back your score.

Been a long time since I had windows on my machine, but I do remember my timedemos being faster in Linux.

It's a couple of years ago and I don't remember the exact figures, but I had a 486/66 with 16 meg under SUSE 4.2 (?) beating the cr*p out of a 166 with 32 meg and Windhose 95 installed.

You got Quake 3 to run under a 486 with 16MB of ram?

Quake 3 runs better under linux for me too.:D I don't have any benchmarks or anything but it's a highly noticable speed difference.

All my games that I've played in Windows (apart from UT2003) get around 30fps better in Linux, UT2003 gets roughly the same.
