Anyone know which module to load (or where to get the module) for the built-in NIC on an MSI k7n2 nForce2 mobo with the MCP-2 southbridge?

The NIC is listed in the device manager as just an MCP 10/100 Ethernet Controller but I believe it is technically a RealTek 8139 chip because Realtek is also the sound chip that's built into my mobo. I could be wrong though.

Also, when it asks for my NIC 'parameters', what exactly is it asking for? IP? gateway? MAC????????

I'm beginning to wonder about Suse, with this bs ftp install w/no support and very vague instructions.

I'm not sure if this will help or just add to the confusion, but from what I've seen there are at least two (possibly three) NIC variations on the nforce2:

1. The NIC is an nvidia, and uses the "nvnet" module.

2. The NIC is a Realtek, and uses the "8139too" or "rtl8139" module

3. There are two embedded NIC, in which case the first is an nvidia and the second is a 3Com. (I don't know which module the 3Com uses).

Concerning your question of "when it asks for my NIC 'parameters', what exactly is it asking for?", what exactly is the "it" which is doing the asking? Depending on where you're getting prompted for the info it could be asking for optional driver/module parameters (such as IRQ and I/O address), or it could be asking for your IP information.

I was referring to the initial part of the installation, before Yast2 starts, after I boot from floppy.

I have residential Roadrunner, in other words I don't have static addresses. So I don't think I should be putting in an IP/mask/gateway, it should be grabbing that from DHCP.
