I have a question regarding gaim and notification of new messages. If I have a chat window open and leave that virtual desktop, then if that person IMs me again, the only way I'll have of knowing it is if I turned on sounds in gaim, which I don't want to do.
Is there some sort of other way of notifying me, in either KDE or GNOME, such as a blinking tab on the window list (such as Windows does)?

There is a plugin called "Message Notification". If you turn it on then go into it's ptions there are a few things you can make gaim do. Also there is a system tray plugin. Put the ticker on gnome panel for example and it should notify you of new messages.

The System Tray Plugin only notifies you of new conversations that don't already have a window open, but if there is another window open, it does nothing.
And I have already checked out the Message Notification plugin, and there doesn't seem to be anything that will do what I want.
I've found out about Gaim OSD (http://gaimosd.sourceforge.net/) but I haven't tried it out yet. I'll post my results after getting a chance to use it.
