KDE Installation from source

Ok, I got KDE 3.1.1a compiled and installed from source ok.

It starts and runs through the desktop setup wizard for me but then when it starts I just have a blank gray screen. Nothing at all. No right click menu or anything.

What did I do wrong?

System:
Dell I2600 Celeron 1.06 ghz 128 mg RAM
Mandrake 9.1, stock

seems like your x server isnt configured correct.
you may need to run xf86config to fix it yourself.

Umm... X is working, because he is at the desktop configuration of KDE. I would delete ~/.kde* and try it again and maybe cancel the desktop config part and see what happens. Also, <ctrl><alt><F1> (if you are logged into vt1 when you startx) and see what the output there is.

I'm not sure what the issue was, I deleted .kde and created a new user to no avail. Recompiled and reinstalled and it worked.
