I love my Olympus D520z. I had to patch the kernel to fix a bug, but it works great.

I use a Cannon PowerShot S30. It cost me about $400 with a 256mb CF card. It works perfect with gtkam and it does about everything you would want. I would make sure you check the gtkam list before you buy one because I think they only have about 300-500 cameras that are supported.

i am very pleased with my Sony DSC-P31 and i know that the P51 is even better. the quality is very high and i never had any issues with it...it's just plain Sony quality :D
www.dpreview.com is a very nice and thorough site. read about almost every single digital camera there.

Sample picture.
Olympus D-520z outside, no special adjustments.

that looks pretty good.
but i was thinking about the olmpus D560 (C-350 zoom) (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Olympus/oly_d560z.asp)
since it's got the 3.2 versus 2.0 mpixel

Well if you want one of the best. See this web site.

Maybe if I can find a buyer for a kidney I can get one for me.
I have used a friends EOS 1d. It's incredible. Not excatlly your entry to mid-level digi cam. Worth the money if you are looking for something very long term investment wise in a digi cam.

thx for the suggestion, but i'm trying to avoid canon as they don't have the night scene mode (which i need to have)
