McManus 07-01-2002, 11:42 AM First of all, great work with the page! Seeing new life in LNO is a great relief. Now, on to some suggestions: 1.) Since you guys merged a few BBS's together, it might be a good idea to start merging/removing/deleting some of the different forums, as we have QUITE a few now, many of them overlapping with each other. Heck, I even think some of LNO's original ones were unnecessary and overlapped with each other. 2.) After you decide which forums stay, it might be a good idea to re-order them (for our convenience [<-- dang I forgot how to spell that word, had to look it up..!!] , hehe) to the most used ones on top (like a 'General' or maybe rants ;) or what not). I guess we could take a vote or you guys could just arbitrarily pick it and let us b*tch/moan about it until the users are happy, heh. 3.) Daily/weekly polls would be nice. Especially if the users could submit them! 4.) OFFICIAL IRC channel? LNO mostly uses #grasshoppers on irc.openprojects.net , but a new official one for the whole NEW BBS might be a good idea (or we can just make #grasshoppers the official one ;) ) 5.) help me get my old account back! :( (I emailed someone about it already) 11000 07-01-2002, 04:54 PM Love the new BBS. Only suggestion I have is that I can't seem to find a link on the main page to the main forum page. Of course, this could be that I'm just blind, or it's in a hard to find spot. Anyway, since the forums are by far the most helpful thing about this website, it would be nice if there was an obvious link near the top of the page for people who've never been here before to find. Just a suggestion. And wanted to say thanks for the hard work ya'll put into the sight. Only have to wait about 10-15 min to reactivate my account, and was able to keep my post count and everything! :) Edit: Just did some reading. The Home button leads to the forum. Perhaps rename it so that people know what "home" it's talking about. I assumed it was the main LNO page. Frith 07-01-2002, 05:05 PM Originally posted by 11000 Love the new BBS. Why didn't you give me a chance to fix my error before you pointed it out, and made me look dumb! :p Icarus 07-01-2002, 05:14 PM I'm cross posting, but fsck it! :D The Linux Today stream is way broken, it's slow and is missing many many many articles http://www.linuxnewbie.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=278786#post278786 jerbear 07-01-2002, 05:31 PM I think the time zones don't take daylight savings time into account. I'm on central daylight time, and it's currently 4:27 pm. However, when I set my profile up as in Central time, it lists the time as 3:27 pm. We have strict rules and regulations regarding how we are to treat users of other distributions. Article 43, Subsection 264d: "All Zealots are to ritually and habitually make Slackers look foolish." Article 57, Subsection 14a: "Any Zealot or user of Linux who fails to recognize the superiority of Debian must be ridiculed and demeaned." Article 75, Subsection 35b: "Debian is better than Slackware." :p mcmanus69 07-02-2002, 01:30 PM LoL, Frith!!! :D Frith has very accurately described what a 'Debian Zealot' is, for all you guys/gals that are new to the board :) Another suggestions: create a "Logoff" button so you can change users ...and move the darn side-banner, please! (to the bottom, maybe?) It's hell for those of us forced to be in 800x600 :( Frith 07-02-2002, 02:02 PM Originally posted by mcmanus69 Another suggestions: create a "Logoff" button so you can change users. you can click on the "home" button or the "Linuxnewbie Forums" link underneath the purple buttons to go to the LNO forum front page, and at the very bottom, you can elect to log out. I hope this helps. ;) Ludootje 07-05-2002, 11:32 AM Great work, but... (1) put the banner on the right on the top or the end of the page, please! (2) actually look in this topic ;) because there are good ideas z0mbix 07-05-2002, 12:24 PM Originally posted by Frith Article 43, Subsection 264d: "All Zealots are to ritually and habitually make Slackers look foolish." You forgot to mention: Article 82, Subsection 12f: "A Debian user must regularly troll the www to advertise the importance and relevance of apt/dpkg on today's market" and Article 177, Subsection 11d: " Debian " mcmanus69 07-05-2002, 02:12 PM *sigh*... another fine thread gone bad 'cuz of the Debianites... :D Syngin 07-07-2002, 04:23 PM Kudos on the new board guys. I'm particualrly impressed by the fact that the search function works now and is about 20x faster than it was before. :) Thanks again. 11000 07-09-2002, 02:58 PM Cool! I like the new forum button and home button. Much more intuitive. Thanks for being interested in our suggestions and doing something about them! :) balbert 07-09-2002, 04:38 PM no prob thanks for the positive feed back LordB justlinux.com
